During the Africa Tech Festival in Cape Town, South Africa, 10 startups from across the continent engaged in the AfricaIgnite Pitch Competition, competing for a chance to participate in the Startup World Cup pitch competition. Delta Scan, based in South Africa, emerged as the overall winner, securing the African spot in the Startup World Cup.
Darryl Epstein, the Managing Director of Delta Scan, expressed gratitude for the judges’ belief in the company, stating, “We’re on a good trajectory and it helps fuel the fire. We’re looking forward to taking this to the global stage.” Zachariah George, one of the judges, emphasized the tough decision-making process, ensuring the winner could excel on the global stage.
Keshni Morar, another judge and CEO of Investable, praised the entrepreneurs for standing out in a challenging environment, stating, “We need to get you guys on a global stage for Africa.” Epstein will join 49 other entrepreneurs in San Francisco, USA, for the Startup World Cup pitch competition finals on December 1, 2023, with the chance to win USD$1 million.
Delta Scan utilizes drone technology to streamline the inspection of infrastructure, providing real-time health checks on assets. Epstein highlighted the efficiency of their 3D analytical models, capable of analyzing a building in minutes compared to weeks for traditional methods.
The AfricaIgnite Pitch Competition featured diverse pitches, including innovative solutions in education, mobility, mobile money apps, job recruitment, and beauty apps. An honorable mention was given to the Tausi App from Kenya, facilitating seamless connections between beauticians and clients while fostering loyalty.
The Africa Tech Festival showcased the significant role of startups, with a dedicated zone triple the size of previous events. Recognizing the entrepreneurial spirit as crucial for Africa’s prosperity, the festival anticipated even more remarkable innovations at the 2024 edition.
