I&M Group PLC and the Board of Directors of I&M Bank (Uganda) Limited have appointed Mr. Robin Bairstow as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective August 2023, pending approval from the Bank of Uganda.
Robin brings a wealth of experience in the financial services sector, having previously served as the CEO of I&M Bank (Rwanda) Plc from September 2015 to June 2023. His tenure saw remarkable growth, including a threefold increase in total assets to RWF 491.3 billion and substantial pre-tax profit growth to RWF 13.4 billion. He also oversaw the listing of I&M Bank Rwanda on the Rwanda Stock Exchange in 2017.
Prior to joining I&M Group, Bairstow held senior leadership roles at various financial institutions, such as Standard Chartered Bank, Citibank NA, BOE Bank, and Nedbank, with a wide geographical scope spanning Central & East Africa and South-East Asia, showcasing his versatile expertise in navigating complex financial landscapes.
He is a graduate of the South African Merchant Naval Academy and holds various qualifications, including a Diploma in Business Management from the Institute of Business Management and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Leicester.

Robin Bairstow’s appointment as CEO follows the departure of Kumaran Pather in December 2022. Sam Ntulume, who had been acting CEO since December 2022, will continue in his role as Executive Director and Chief Operations Officer.
