Dr. Kiiza Besigye, the former president of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), has decided to end his involvement as a dealer at the Nsambya Total fuel station. Approximately 27 years ago, Besigye entered into an agreement with Total Energies Uganda to operate the Nsambya branch as a dealer.
However, on Thursday, Besigye took to his Twitter platform to announce that he had ceased operating the station since April. In his tweet, the former presidential candidate stated, “After more than 27 years of running Nsambya Total Station as a dealer, I handed back the station to Total on April 19, 2023.”
Besigye expressed his gratitude to Total Energies Uganda for the partnership they had throughout the years. He also extended his appreciation to the station’s staff for their contribution to its operation. Additionally, Besigye thanked the loyal customers who supported the business, especially those who stood by him during politically challenging times since 2001. He concluded his message with blessings for all.
Besigye clarified that he made the decision to retire from the fuel retail business in order to focus on his political career. He thanked Total Energies for their partnership and wished them success in their future endeavors.
It is worth noting that there had been speculations suggesting that Besigye owned the entire property on which the Nsambya Total station was situated. However, Besigye dismissed these claims as false, emphasizing that the property and all its developments belonged to Total. He reiterated that he was solely a “Dealer,” responsible for operating the business at the station, and denied ownership of any other properties such as Equatorial Hotel in Kampala, refuting the propaganda surrounding such allegations.
