Jumia, the premier e-commerce platform in Africa, has announced the appointment of Vinod Goel as the Regional CEO for East Africa. Vinod will oversee operations in both Kenya and Uganda directly as CEO, succeeding Charles Ballard in Kenya.

During his tenure as CEO of Jumia Uganda, Vinod successfully revitalized the business, achieving remarkable top-line growth and improving unit economics significantly.

Vinod’s appointment aligns with Jumia’s strategy of cultivating experienced leaders in key regional markets. Expressing his enthusiasm, Vinod stated, “I am deeply honored to lead Jumia’s operations in Kenya and Uganda during this exciting growth phase. Our commitment to delivering innovative, convenient, and affordable online shopping remains steadfast.”

He added, “We are dedicated to forging more partnerships with both local and global brands. There is substantial interest from global brands like Starlink to establish sole partnerships, and new brands seek to launch their products nationwide overnight.”

Vinod joined Jumia in 2020 as Head of Global Fulfillment Operations, where he enhanced shipping efficiency and doubled its scale within eighteen months. In 2022, he assumed the role of CEO, spearheading the expansion and transformation of Jumia Uganda.

Before Jumia, Vinod held positions in Strategy, Finance, and Supply Chain at Lafarge Group, spanning Europe, Asia, and Africa. He began his professional journey as a software engineer in India. Vinod holds a B.S. in Engineering and dual MBA degrees from MDI Gurgaon in India and ESCP Europe in London.
