Kibaale coffee dealer remanded over trading immature coffee

KIBAALE, (Examiner) – Kibaale Grade One Magistrate, Derick Kamanzi has remanded a coffee dealer to Kibaale government prison on charges of trading premature coffee in Kibaale District.

Early this month, officials from Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) in partnership with Kibaale police conducted an operation, cracking down on those harvesting and trading immature Coffee in Kibaale District.

During the operation, Kibaale police arrested George Nsereko, a coffee dealer from Masindi district operating in Kituutu Trading Center, Karama Sub County who was found with 10 sacks of immature coffee valued at over 40 Million shillings.

Prosecution today told court that on 2nd April this year while at Kitutu trading center Nsereko was found with harvested 10 sacks of immature coffee which is contrary to Uganda coffee act.

In dock, the accused Nsereko pleaded guilty over charges but the resident state attorney Waswa Bengo asked the magistrate to set another date for the reading of brief facts about the case and the latter was remanded to Kibaale prison until 16th of this month.
