Fort Portal District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | A devastating fire erupted in Kisenyi, Fort Portal City, causing extensive damage to properties valued at millions of dollars. The blaze ignited around noon and quickly engulfed various assets, including automobiles, a motorcycle, a section of the SkyView hotel building, timber storage facilities, and several local hotels in the vicinity.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire is believed to have originated from a makeshift hotel structure before rapidly spreading to nearby timber storage areas and an adjacent car garage. In a valiant effort to salvage vehicles from the inferno, local residents dismantled a temporary Pentecostal church to create access to the garage. Unfortunately, some vehicles had already suffered partial damage by the time they could be rescued.
Tragically, the members of the dismantled church also fell victim to theft, losing valuable possessions such as seats, speakers, and microphones during the chaos.
Richard Muhumuza, the mayor of the central division, pointed to the presence of temporary structures in the area as a contributing factor to the fire’s devastating reach.
As of the latest update, a police fire rescue team was actively working to contain the blaze using water.
