MTN Uganda has been officially designated as the telecommunications operator for the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G77 + China Third South Summits, highlighting its integral role in the planning and execution of these highly anticipated events. Collaborating with the Government of Uganda since November 2023, MTN has provided essential support for the success of the summits, earning recognition from Dr Amina Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT.

Set to unfold at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo from January 15 to 20, 2024, and from January 21 to 23, 2024, for the NAM and G77 + China Third South Summits respectively, these gatherings will unite global leaders and stakeholders. MTN’s involvement extends beyond telecommunications, encompassing strategic advisory and technical advice for the branding of the summits.

MTN has spearheaded the branding campaign, aiming to position Uganda as a prime destination for trade and investment while fostering national pride. The company’s financial contribution of USD 100,000 towards co-branding collaboration has been acknowledged by Mr Vincent Bagiire, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

MTN’s branding efforts, stretching from Entebbe International Airport to delegate routes and venues, showcase Uganda’s treasures, emphasizing its natural beauty and unique cultural endowments. The Uganda Tourism Board appreciates MTN’s significant role in promoting the country’s investment potential.

Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr Charles Mbire, commends MTN’s commitment to Uganda’s progress, stating that the company is more than a service provider but a partner woven into the fabric of the country’s growth.

MTN’s involvement in Uganda extends beyond business contributions, exemplifying its role as a responsible corporate citizen. In collaboration with government initiatives, MTN contributed to the Uganda–South Africa Trade and Investment Summit in September 2023. As a pioneer of 5G technology, MTN ensures seamless communication and connectivity for summit participants.

MTN’s collaboration with the government includes enhancing technological infrastructure at summit venues, providing free Tourist SIM cards, and setting up customer service points. CEO Ms Sylvia Mulinge emphasizes Uganda as MTN’s home, expressing dedication to ensuring the success of the NAM/G77 Summits and contributing to the economic growth of the country.
