A swindler who defrauded two businessmen in Rukungiri municipality by selling them stolen motor vehicles has been apprehended in Kyenjojo district, where he was hiding.
The suspect, Nuwabeine Innocent, who had been using the alias Nomwesigwa Moses, stands accused of pilfering a Harrier-type motor vehicle with registration number UBN 718V, which he then sold in Kyenjojo district. Additionally, he is alleged to have stolen two Toyota Wish cars from Mbarara. He faces three charges: impersonation, obtaining money through false pretenses, and theft, as filed by Kyenjojo police under reference number 45/01/07/2023. Currently, he is in custody at Kyenjojo police station, awaiting transportation to Mbarara and Rukungiri, where he committed these crimes.
As per available information, the suspect deceived the proprietors of Moses Investments and Kenneth, both businessmen dealing in used motorcycles. He accomplished this by selling them a Toyota Harrier UBL 977S and a Toyota Wish UBB 975B, both of which he had stolen between June and July 2023.
The two stolen vehicles were traced by the police and have since been held at Rukungiri district Central Police Station while efforts were made to apprehend the suspect.
Investigations have uncovered that the suspect had colluded with a local car dealer in Rukungiri, known as Akankwasa Geoffrey, also known as Jakode, to sell the stolen cars in western Uganda.

Following these investigations, the two vehicles, currently housed at Rukungiri Central Police Station, will be returned to their rightful owners. Furthermore, the suspect will face legal proceedings to answer for his charges, including reimbursing the two businessmen he had deceived.
