Farmers in the Sebei region are grappling with a decline in Irish potato prices attributed to the adverse effects of heavy rains on the local road infrastructure. The inclement weather, affecting the entire country, has taken a toll on Sebei as well.

Yesho Fred, a farmer in the region, highlighted the deteriorating condition of the roads, making the transportation of harvests exceptionally challenging. This has resulted in a significant drop in potato prices.

According to Fred, the previous selling range of Ugandan Shillings 80,000–100,000 per bag has plummeted to 50,000–60,000 due to the combined impact of heavy rains and the poor road network linking harvesting areas. Farmers like him are experiencing substantial losses, given their significant investments and the disparity in returns.

In light of these challenges, Yesho urged the government to intervene and address the dire state of the road network, providing much-needed assistance to the affected farmers.
