Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) Managing Director, Andrew Kilonzo, visited the new CEO of I&M Bank Uganda, Robin Bairstow, at the bank’s headquarters at Kingdom Kampala on Monday, November 6th. The two business leaders engaged in a productive meeting focused on various aspects of the business landscape in the country.
The meeting revolved around two key themes: inclusion and the digitalization of business systems. Inclusion, though a common topic, is of paramount importance as it fosters a sense of belonging in society and within corporate organizations. It ensures that all individuals, regardless of their backgrounds, beliefs, or physical appearances, have a voice and can contribute to an organization’s success.
Encouraging diversity and inclusivity in workplaces empowers individuals to bring their unique perspectives and skills to the table, fostering innovation and problem-solving. Both UBL and I&M Bank have established track records of promoting inclusive environments. In 2019, UBL joined the Uganda Business and Disability Network (UBDN), supporting the employment of individuals with disabilities. The UBDN is dedicated to creating respectful and inclusive workplaces for persons with disabilities.
Robin Bairstow, during his tenure as CEO of I&M Bank Rwanda, led a successful inclusion program for women by implementing a gender equality action plan. His efforts were recognized during International Women’s Day celebrations when I&M Bank Rwanda received recognition for its gender-responsive work environment.
Kilonzo and Bairstow also explored opportunities for collaboration in areas of mutual interest. Both organizations have existing partnerships in golf and environmental conservation and share a commitment to improving the communities where they operate.

The discussion also delved into the digitalization of trade and how innovative methods can streamline and enhance business processes. This meeting is a significant step toward enhancing the business landscape in Uganda and has the potential to benefit both organizations and their wider communities. After the meeting, Bairstow, accompanied by Annette Nakiyaga, the head of marketing and corporate affairs at I&M Bank, gave Kilonzo a tour of the premium Kingdom Kampala branch.
“I&M Bank Uganda believes that the prosperity of business and society is inextricably linked. To realize this belief, the financial institution supports deserving projects that help it deliver a positive impact on society. This meeting marks a significant step forward in I&M Bank’s mission to create a more inclusive and innovative business environment,” stated Nakiyaga.
