KAMPALA, (Examiner) – Uganda Breweries Limited has partnered with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) to support the 8th Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo. The brewery has committed UGX 100 million to sponsor the event, which will take place from May 23-25 at Speke Resort Convention Bureau, Munyonyo, under the theme “Responsible Tourism.”
The partnership, featuring Pilsner Lager and Uganda Waragi Lemon and Ginger, was formalized at a national organizing board meeting at Speke Resort.
“Our support for this edition of POATE highlights the crucial role of collaboration between the private sector and government in promoting Uganda’s tourism and hospitality industry. Under this partnership, we will sponsor the Expo with Pilsner Lager and Uganda Waragi Lemon and Ginger, brands deeply rooted in Ugandan culture and representing the bold and vibrant spirit of Uganda,” said Andrew Kilonzo, Managing Director of Uganda Breweries Limited.
During the Expo, Uganda Waragi and Pilsner will create a cultural village showcasing various aspects of Ugandan culture, including music, food, fashion, dance, and more.
“This partnership not only provides a platform to showcase Uganda’s tourism potential but also allows us to exhibit authentic, locally manufactured brands on an international scale,” Kilonzo added.
Lily Ajarova, Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Tourism Board, expressed gratitude for Uganda Breweries’ support. She noted that tourism and hospitality include unique Ugandan products like Uganda Waragi, recognized for its high quality and authenticity.
“Culture is a major driver of tourism in Uganda. Brands like Pilsner Lager and Uganda Waragi play a key role in cultural preservation, which is essential for promoting tourism in the country,” Ajarova stated.
The Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo, organized by UTB, aims to position Uganda as a preferred destination in domestic, regional, and international markets. POATE will attract over 70 hosted buyers, 300 exhibitors, and 5,000 trade visitors.
“Culture significantly promotes a nation as an ideal tourism destination. Through brand partnerships and associations led by Pilsner, we have contributed to celebrating and preserving our rich cultural heritage,” Kilonzo concluded.
