Kabale, Uganda | The Black Examiner – The operations at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital are being severely hampered by the absence of a qualified neurologist.

A neurologist, a medical professional specialized in identifying, treating, and overseeing disorders concerning the brain and nervous system, is notably absent from the medical staff.

In the previous year, the hospital was provided with a CT scan machine by the Ministry of Health.

Individuals seeking CT scan services are required to make payments ranging from 100,000 to 120,000 Shillings.

Tragically, individuals afflicted with cranial and neurological issues are facing ongoing hardships as their conditions remain undiagnosed due to the hospital’s lack of a neurologist.

Scores of patients and local inhabitants who have been arriving at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital with hopes of undergoing CT scans are encountering disappointment, either being turned away or redirected to Mbarara Hospital, all because of the hospital’s inability to secure a neurologist specialist.

Dr. John Philbert Nyeko, the Director of Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, has candidly acknowledged that the absence of neurology specialists has gravely impacted the CT scan services.

Nyeko has emphasized that those most negatively impacted are individuals who have experienced accidents and urgently need accurate diagnoses to determine whether surgical intervention is required.

In Nyeko’s assessment, out of an average of 15 to 20 patients necessitating CT scan procedures, two must be referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital or private medical facilities. This disruption brings about considerable inconvenience for the patients and their caregivers.
