Summary:

  • The dysfunctionality of the theater at Biiso Health Center IV in Buliisa district, resulting from the absence of an anesthetic technician, and challenges with staffing and drug supplies, highlights the urgent need for recruitment and resources to ensure effective healthcare delivery in the community.

Buliisa District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | The dysfunctionality of the theater at Biiso Health Center IV in Buliisa district is attributed to the government’s failure to deploy an anesthetic technician, The Black Examiner has learnt.

In 2021, the facility was upgraded from health center III to IV, with the construction of a theater aimed at expanding community services and reducing referrals. However, as of Monday morning, Dr. Peter Otim, the facility in-charge, revealed a crucial staffing gap, particularly in the absence of anesthetic technicians, adversely impacting service delivery.

Dr. Otim urges the Buliisa district local government to urgently recruit an anesthetic technician to prevent unnecessary referrals, emphasizing that the theater remains unused due to the absence of specialized personnel.

Additionally, Dr. Otim highlights another challenge faced by the facility—insufficient drug supplies, exacerbated by a rising number of patients and security threats, as the facility is only partially fenced.

Dr. Mugabe Robert, the District Health Educator (DHE) in Buliisa, acknowledges the deficiency of anesthetic technicians at Biiso Health Centre IV. He mentions that an advertisement for recruitment was initiated last year but was halted due to financial constraints. Dr. Mugabe explains that two district medics are currently pursuing advanced studies, and upon completion, they plan to deploy one at Buliisa Health Centre IV and another at Biiso Health Centre IV.

While Biiso Health Center IV has been serving a daily influx of at least 300 people since its construction in 1995, the current challenges necessitate urgent attention and recruitment efforts to ensure effective healthcare delivery in the community.
