  • Patients in Biiso and Buliisa Health Centers share beds with the deceased due to the absence of mortuaries, highlighting the urgent need for government prioritization of construction for improved service delivery.

Patients in Biiso Health Centre IV and Buliisa Health Centre, located in Biiso Town Council and Buliisa Town Council respectively, are compelled to share beds with the deceased due to the absence of mortuaries. Dr. Peter Otim, the In-Charge of Biiso Health Center IV, revealed this during an exclusive interview, highlighting the facility’s lack of a mortuary and ambulance.

Despite the partial fencing of the facility, Dr. Otim emphasized the urgent need for a mortuary, emphasizing that patients and deceased individuals currently occupy the same wards. He explained that the absence of a mortuary leads to dead bodies being left on admission beds in shared wards.

Dr. Mugabe Robert, the District Health Educator (DHE) in Buliisa, confirmed the absence of mortuaries at Buliisa Health Centre IV and Biiso Health Centre IV. However, the district has one operational mortuary at Buliisa General Hospital. Dr. Mugabe revealed that the construction of mortuaries in these health facilities is part of a five-year plan, and in the meantime, the police transport corpses to Buliisa General Hospital.
