KAMPALA, (Examiner) – The Ministry of Health has introduced the Uganda Clinical Guidelines (UCG 2023) and the Essential Medicines and Health Supplies Management (EMHSM) Manual 2023.

Dr. Daniel Kyabayinze, Director of Public Health at the Ministry of Health, represented Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, Minister of Health, at the event, which convened various stakeholders in the health sector.

Developed by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with USAID/Uganda Strengthening Supply Chain Systems Activity, these guidelines and manual aim to improve healthcare quality by equipping health workers with current, comprehensive information to effectively tackle prevalent health issues in Uganda.

In his address on behalf of Dr. Aceng Ocero, Dr. Kyabayinze emphasized the importance of the UCG:

“The Uganda Clinical Guidelines (UCG) 2023 will provide updated and practical information on diagnosing and managing common health conditions in Uganda, ensuring accessible, equitable, and high-quality services for the population.”

Dr. Seru Moris, Acting Commissioner for Health Services in the Department of Pharmaceuticals and Natural Medicines, highlighted the practicality of the UCG 2023:

“This 4th edition of the UCG 2023 offers evidence-based, practical, and implementable guidance, facilitating cost-effective and affordable treatment for priority health conditions in Uganda.”

He further emphasized the UCG 2023’s role as a vital resource for daily clinical practice, enabling health workers to effectively manage prevalent health conditions and promote the availability of medicines across all levels of care in Uganda.
