  • Over 100 suspected criminals were arrested in an intelligence-led operation in Kampala’s CBD, targeting areas such as Kisekka Market, with the joint efforts of the police, army, military, and intelligence agencies, addressing escalating petty crimes against travelers, including habitual criminals recently released on bail.

An intelligence-driven operation in the Kampala Central Business District (CBD) resulted in the apprehension of over 100 suspected criminals. The collaborative effort involved the police, army, military, and intelligence agencies and targeted key areas such as Kisekka Market, Burton Street, Arua Park, Old Taxi Park, and Nakivubo channel on a Thursday afternoon.

Providing details, Patrick Onyango, the spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, explained that the operation was prompted by numerous complaints of escalating petty crimes against travelers in the city center. Onyango disclosed that the arrested individuals were found in possession of women’s bags, jewelry, drugs, and tools used for breaking locks.

Highlighting a significant aspect of the operation, Onyango emphasized that a portion of the apprehended individuals fell into the category of habitual criminals who had recently been released on bail with corresponding bond papers mandating their return to court. He stated that those falling into this category would undergo screening and be promptly brought before the court.
