Buliisa District | The Black Examiner – A teenage boy, Victor Byamani, aged 15 and residing at Kibarama landing site in Kirama Parish, Kigwera sub-county, Buliisa District, fell victim to a crocodile attack in Lake Albert. The incident occurred while Byamani and three friends were fetching water. Suddenly, a crocodile emerged from the lake and seized him, prompting his friends to rush back home and alert the community about the attack.

Tragically, it was too late to save Byamani’s life, as the crocodile had already killed him and vanished into the lake with his body. Julius Hakiza, the spokesperson for the Albertine region police, confirmed the incident and noted that local fishermen and the marine police were conducting a search for the victim’s remains. Hakiza also emphasized the importance of not sending children alone to fetch water, especially in areas known for the presence of crocodiles and other wildlife.

As of the time of reporting, the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) had not issued a statement regarding the incident. This incident is not isolated, as the region has witnessed previous crocodile attacks. In May of the same year, a crocodile killed a 72-year-old man in Lake Albert in Hoima District, and in April 2020, a similar attack occurred when a crocodile mauled a 20-year-old man in Lake Albert in Buliisa District.

Other incidents include a severe crocodile injury to 18-year-old Maureen Vicky in Kiryamboga landing site, Hoima district, while she was collecting firewood in July 2018. In July 2019, a fatal crocodile attack took the life of 24-year-old Christine Nema, a resident of Rwebigongoro Landing Site in Kagadi district, while she was washing clothes on the lake’s shores.
