Mthunzi played a key role in a billion-rand extraction scheme exposed by Babita Deokaran, just weeks before her murder in 2021.
At the time of his death 10 days ago, Mthunzi had been suspended while undergoing a marathon disciplinary investigation that lasted almost two years. Because he died while “in service,” his estate is entitled to a legacy of payments from the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF).
