Summary:

  • Nigerian singer Rexxie has been arrested by Ugandan authorities, as confirmed by him on Instagram. He urges fans for support, echoing the recent detention of Nigerian musicians Omah Lay and Tems in Uganda for COVID-19 violations.

The Nigerian record producer and singer, known as Chisom Faith or Rexxie, was disclosed to have been arrested by Ugandan authorities, as announced by the ‘KKP’ crooner on his Instagram page on Monday morning. He stated that he was detained by the Ugandan Immigration but did not specify the cause, deeming it “unfair.” Urging his fans for support, he initiated the hashtag campaign “UgandaFreeRexxie” to rally for his release. In a plea for assistance, he wrote, “I’ve been arrested at the Ugandan Immigration. Pls I need help.”

The incident evokes memories of Nigerian musicians Omah Lay and Tems, who were apprehended, charged, and detained in Uganda for performing at a concert at Speke Resort, Kampala, on December 12th, disregarding COVID-19 social distancing rules. After spending two days in jail, they were eventually released.
