GAKO, RWANDA (Examiner) – The Republic of Rwanda’s Minister of Defence, Hon. Juvenal Marizamunda, officially launched the 13th Edition of the EAC Armed Forces Field Training Exercise, known as ‘Ushirikiano Imara,’ at the Rwanda Defence Force Military Academy in Gako today.
Under the theme, “Strengthening the Security Sector Integration and Harnessing Common Interests Consistent with EAC Regional Peace and Security,” this exercise underscores the importance of regional cooperation for sustainable peace.
“Cooperation is the cornerstone for achieving long-lasting peace in our region,” stated Hon. Marizamunda. He urged the participating forces to engage seriously, learn from each other, and share experiences to bolster regional cooperation and address existing security threats effectively.

Representing the EAC Secretary General, Col Deng Mayom Manyang Malaul noted the exercise’s timeliness, emphasizing its role in evaluating and enhancing the region’s readiness to tackle complex security challenges.
Additionally, Uganda’s Minister of State for Defence and Veterans Affairs, Hon. Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, visited the Ugandan contingent involved in the exercise. She praised the UPDF and other participating units for demonstrating their preparedness and commitment.
