Birunji Agira Sworn In as UCU’s 26th Guild President

Mukono, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Uganda Christian University (UCU) students exercised their voting rights on November 15, 2023, leading to the victory of Ms. Birunji Agira as the new Guild President of the Mukono-based institution. Following the electoral roadmap, Agira officially assumed her role as the students’ leader on November 21, 2023, after a smooth swearing-in ceremony attended by the Vice Chancellor and other top administrators.

UCU celebrated Agira’s inauguration, tweeting, “Join us in congratulating Ms. Birunji Agira, the newly sworn-in 26th Guild President of Uganda Christian University for the term 2023-2024! Your leadership journey begins, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact you’ll make.”

In her commitment, Agira pledged to uphold and defend the Students Guild Constitution. She expressed her gratitude on November 21, 2023, stating, “I took the Oath of Allegiance and swore in as the newly elected 26th Guild President of @UCUniversity. I’ll preserve, protect and defend the Students Guild Constitution. It’s always been a God Calling to serve the students’ body.”

During the election, Birungi Agira secured 53.05% of the votes, totaling 1156, surpassing her competitor, Emmanuel Gerald Abura, who received 46.95% with 1023 votes. Agira succeeds Ddumba Timothy, becoming UCU’s 26th Guild President.
