Bugingo’s slain guard was part of Museveni’s elite force

On Tuesday night, unidentified assailants on a motorcycle targeted Bugingo’s vehicle, resulting in the tragic death of his bodyguard, Richard Muhumuza.

The Black Examiner has independently gathered that the deceased was a member of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), serving with the Special Forces Command (SFC).

In response to inquiries, SFC spokesperson Maj Jimmy Omara acknowledged that Muhumuza held the rank of corporal within their ranks. Maj Omara confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He revealed that the deceased’s body is presently at the Mulago city mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination, with the UPDF taking charge of the burial arrangements.

Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire announced on Wednesday morning that investigations into the shooting had commenced. The incident occurred around 9 pm at Bawalakata junction along National Housing road in Namungoona zone 2, Lubaga division.

Owoyesigyire detailed that the assailants fired upon Bugingo’s vehicle before swiftly fleeing the scene on a motorcycle. The targeted shots were directed at the co-driver’s seat, resulting in the immediate death of Bugingo’s guard. Bugingo sustained injuries but managed to drive the vehicle to Mulago hospital, where it was confirmed that his bodyguard had tragically passed away.

“In our active pursuit of justice, we are thoroughly reviewing CCTV footage to identify the assailants. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available,” stated Owoyesigyire.

On Wednesday morning, Senior Presidential Advisor Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba urged swift investigations into the shooting, emphasizing the need for law enforcement agencies to promptly apprehend and bring the perpetrators to justice. He raised questions about the identity of the criminals, pondering whether they were affiliated with ADF or some clandestine group, emphasizing the urgency of obtaining answers to these inquiries.
