Kigali, Rwanda | Xinhua | Chinese and Rwandan scholars and experts emphasized the need for international collaboration to address the escalating impact of climate change on natural resources. The sixth International Conference on Environment, Energy, and Development, held in Kigali, Rwanda, focused on “Sustainable Management of Natural Resources.” Co-organized by the University of Lay Adventists of Kigali (UNILAK), the Sino-Africa Joint Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the CAS, the forum provided a platform for cutting-edge research and discussions on preserving the Earth’s resources.
Jean Ngamije, Vice Chancellor of UNILAK, highlighted the urgency of international cooperation in the face of climate change, biodiversity loss, and resource depletion. He stressed the need to share knowledge and develop innovative solutions for a more sustainable relationship between humanity and the planet. Wang Xuekun, the Chinese ambassador to Rwanda, underscored China’s commitment to ecological civilization as a key aspect of its national development, acknowledging Rwanda’s dedication to green and sustainable development.
Chen Xi, President of the CAS Xinjiang Branch, emphasized the fruitful cooperation between the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography and UNILAK in climate change and disaster prevention projects over the past decade. The conference also witnessed the inauguration of the Rwandan Office of the China-Africa Joint Research Center of the CAS, hosted at UNILAK. The Chinese ambassador expressed optimism about the office’s contribution to Rwanda’s development, China-Rwanda relations, and regional academic cooperation. The event served as a crucial forum for exchanging ideas and fostering collaboration to address the pressing environmental challenges faced globally.
