Pallisa District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | A family in Pallisa district is demanding justice after their 84-year-old relative was fatally struck by a vehicle associated with the president’s office.

Paul Omutu, a resident of Ogoria Village in Okarach Parish, Opqatete subcounty, Pallisa, tragically lost his life when he was hit by a speeding vehicle with registration number UG 2087C at Okum trading center on the new Tirinyi-Pallisa-Kumi highway. Omutu was on his way to a nearby drug store to purchase antibiotics when the incident occurred.

According to a family member, Omutu was struck while he was in the middle of the road. The driver of the speeding vehicle reportedly flashed headlights and honked at close range before colliding with Omutu, leaving him in a critical condition. After the accident, the driver fled to Kibale police post to evade the angry locals.

Despite being rushed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, Omutu tragically passed away.

The family has refused to bury Omutu’s body in protest against the release of the driver by the police. They are urging the president’s office to take responsibility for the burial arrangements and provide compensation.

At the time of reporting, the community was planning to carry Omutu’s body to the RDC’s office as a form of protest. Residents have expressed concerns about the high rate of accidents in the area, with three people having lost their lives since the road was completed. They are calling for the installation of speed bumps to address the issue of overspeeding and frequent accidents.

Efforts to obtain a statement from the police were unsuccessful, as the regional OC traffic declined to comment to this website.

Pallisa RDC, Magid Dikusoka, acknowledged the accident and mentioned that he was working with the head of protocol in the president’s office to provide necessary support to the grieving family.
