Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | On Monday, December 4, 2023, five individuals lost their lives when the perimeter wall of a petrol station collapsed onto rental houses in Ndejje Division, Makindye-Sabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.
The collapse, attributed to the weakening of the Good Luck Petrol Station’s perimeter wall due to heavy morning rainfall, was confirmed by the police. Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire identified the deceased as Phiona Nabulumba, Nabunywa Geofrey, Moja Fuuku, three-year-old Liana, and Doreen.
Following the incident, the Fire Prevention and Rescue services, with support from the local community, initiated rescue efforts. Unfortunately, despite prompt actions, five lives were lost. Two individuals, Mukisa Gladys and Sadat, sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving medical attention in different hospitals.
Luke Owoyesigyire urged the public to cooperate with authorities and provide any pertinent information to aid the ongoing investigation. The bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to City Mortuary Mulago for a thorough postmortem examination. The police expressed condolences to the affected families and emphasized their support during this difficult time.
