An investigation has been launched by the police in Kamwenge District following the gruesome hacking murder of four family members. The tragic incident occurred at 10 pm on Monday in Rwenchwera village, Kinyonza ward, Nkoma Katalyeba Town Council. The victims were identified as Gladys Turyahebwa, 42, the mother, and her children Anita Nuwamanya, 18, Susan Ainemani, 16, and Onesta Atusasire, 9.

Vincent Twesige, the spokesperson for the Rwenzori West region police, revealed that three individuals lost their lives at the scene, while the fourth victim, Ainemani, succumbed to injuries at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital on Tuesday morning. The alleged assailant, Sam Asiimwe, 33, a neighbor of the deceased from the same village, was subsequently lynched by enraged residents.

During the incident, Denis Turyabe, the family head, was away in a nearby trading center. The motive behind the brutal attack remains unknown, and the police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. A police team led by Asp Akol is on-site to determine the details and the killer’s motive.

Sam Bahati, the chairperson of Nkoma Ward, reported that only one child, a 1-year-old, survived as he was not inside the house during the attack. Following the crime, the suspect locked himself inside the same house, but neighbors, alerted by an alarm, intervened and apprehended him, subsequently leading to his lynching. The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this point.
