According to Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, the accident took place around 9 am at Kabaraga Village in Kyanamira Sub-county. The deceased was identified as Dr. Wendsche Ralf, a German national.
The injured individuals include a 48-year-old female German tourist named Silk Venus and their 60-year-old Ugandan driver, Morgan Nyombi, residing in Murungu-Munyonyo, Kampala. The tourist vehicle was owned by Kibo Slopes Uganda Ltd.
The police provided details of the incident, stating that the tourist Toyota Land Cruiser was traveling from Bwindi Gorilla Valley in the Kigezi region to Kampala. As it reached Kabaraga corner in the Kabaraga hills along the Kabale-Mbarara Highway, a speeding Fuso Fighter lorry collided with it on the driver’s side.
“One tourist died on the spot, while his female colleague and the driver sustained serious injuries,” explained Maate.
Following the accident, Kigezi regional police commander ACP Ibrahim Saiga, regional traffic officer SP Fabian Betubiza, and other officers visited the scene. The injured were subsequently transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, and the deceased’s body was taken to the hospital’s mortuary.
The fatal accident case was registered at Kabale police station, and the wreckage was towed to the same facility for inspection by the inspector of vehicles. Notably, official estimates indicate that an average of four people die daily on Ugandan roads.
