Uganda’s Territorial Police in Katonga and Mpigi district have detained an Italian national, identified as Forouzesh Patrick, aged 53, on charges of rape. The alleged incident occurred on September 5, 2023, at approximately 5 p.m.
According to gathered information, the suspect met the victim at her sister’s residence, where her sister is involved in selling chicken feed in Mpami village. Patrick offered the 23-year-old victim a job as a housemaid at a monthly salary of Shs 200,000/=. The victim commenced her work the following day, September 4, 2023. However, during her duties, while she was cleaning a table, the suspect forcibly grabbed her, pulled her onto a sofa, and allegedly raped her. Shockingly, the suspect claimed that having sex during the rain was commonplace.
The victim promptly reported the incident to her sister, and on September 6, 2023, the matter was reported to Mpigi police station. Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga stated that the victim underwent a medical examination, and DNA samples were collected as part of the ongoing investigation.
Enanga emphasized the police’s commitment to investigating individuals who exploit female workers and commit sexual assaults against them. He further indicated that in coordination with the ODPP (Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions), the police will ensure that the suspect is brought to court to seek justice for the victim.
