Lira, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Daniel Okello, the speaker of the west division in Lira city, has issued a warning to mobilize local residents to undertake the repair of Oyam road near Lira Bus Park, located in the deteriorated state in the city center.

Expressing frustration with the lack of action from Lira city council leaders, including Mayor Sam Atul, despite two years in office, Okello announced his decision to enlist the help of local volunteers on Tuesday to improve the condition of Oyam road and enhance transportation and business activities in the vicinity.

Concerned about the progress of USMID road projects in Lira city, Okello urged councilors to closely monitor the developments, expressing apprehension that the project might not meet the December 31, 2023, deadline set by Abubaker technical services.

Sarah Awor Angweri, a councilor representing female workers in Lira city council, highlighted the difficulty faced by councilors in overseeing various projects due to the city leadership’s lack of transparency regarding project progress. She recommended using funds from the Uganda road fund to rehabilitate poorly maintained roads.

Mayor Sam Atul told Examiner that efforts were being made to address the state of roads in the city, refuting claims of indifference. He explained that heavy rains were currently impeding their progress, and he emphasized that the city roads committee had recently identified roads for improvement.
