Masindi District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Phiona Sanyu, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Masindi, has refuted allegations that her office is obstructing certain micro-project groups from accessing funds. On Wednesday, more than 30 members from nine different groups confronted the Masindi Municipal Town Clerk due to the prolonged delay in the disbursement of funds from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) for their micro-projects.

These groups were originally slated to receive a grant of 269 million shillings in the previous fiscal year. Although the money was transferred to the district’s account in May of this year, it has yet to reach the intended beneficiaries.

In response, an impromptu meeting was convened on Thursday afternoon, chaired by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Masindi, Emmy Ngabirano, in his office. During this meeting, CAO Phiona Sanyu dismissed claims that her office was impeding certain micro-project groups from accessing funds. She recommended that the Municipal Town Clerk, Patrick Asiimwe, carry out a fresh verification of the groups to determine their eligibility so that they can receive the funds.

According to the Chief Administrative Officer, out of the ten groups, six were deemed invalid, and the remaining four exhibited irregularities that necessitated further investigation before funds could be disbursed.

In response to these findings, the Municipal Deputy Town Clerk, Patrick Asiimwe, acknowledged the irregularities identified in the micro-project program and pledged to follow the guidance provided by the Chief Administrative Officer.
