Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Market in Kasese Closed Due to Terror Threats

Kasese District | The Black Examiner – Lt. Mate Magwara, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Bukonzo County in Kasese district, has confirmed the temporary closure of the Mpondwe Export Zone market in Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council due to terror threats. The market has been relocated to Kamasasa playground to ensure the safety of traders and property in this significant market worth billions of shillings, following rumors of potential terror attacks.

In response to the security concerns, Lt. Magwara mentioned the deployment of bomb experts and explosive detection dogs to guarantee market safety.

Mr. Moses Mugisa, the town clerk of the area, acknowledged the inconvenience and local revenue setback caused by this situation. However, he emphasized the newfound vigilance among local traders and the community.

Several local traders, including Ms. Stella Kuyamba and Mr. Peter Katsiotho, expressed their frustration with the situation, particularly its negative impact on businesses dealing with perishable goods.
