Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has embarked on a two-day official visit to the Republic of Serbia, arriving at Nikola Tesla Airport-Belgrade on Saturday evening. Warmly received by Serbia’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ivica Dačić, as well as other dignitaries including H.E. Dragan Županjevac, the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of Uganda, and Hon. Henry Okello Oryem, the visit marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

During his stay in Serbia, President Museveni will lead a delegation comprising Government Officials and Private Sector Exporters, engaging in an Export and Investment Promotion Drive set to commence on July 30, 2023. Notably, he will officiate the opening of “UGANDA CONNECT,” the Uganda Trade Hub in Belgrade, aimed at facilitating trade and fostering closer ties between Uganda and Serbia, with a particular focus on expanding Uganda’s presence in the Balkans region.

Moreover, President Museveni and his Serbian counterpart, H.E. Aleksandar Vucic, are scheduled to witness the signing of several key memoranda that outline collaboration in various sectors. These agreements include facilitating market access for Ugandan agricultural products, promoting climate-smart sustainable agricultural practices, fostering cooperation in education, research, and innovation, and establishing joint initiatives in transport and logistics.

Additionally, the pacts will encompass the promotion of tourism between Uganda and Serbia, with potential exploration of most favoured nation-status, and the support for the establishment and operation of the Uganda Trade Hub. Efforts to address trade barriers will also be addressed to facilitate smoother trade between the two countries.

On Sunday, both leaders are expected to hold a joint press briefing to further discuss their collaboration and shared goals. President Museveni will engage in further activities during his visit, including addressing a business summit and touring an exhibition showcasing Ugandan products. The visit is anticipated to strengthen the bonds between Uganda and Serbia, fostering mutually beneficial partnerships for the future.
