National Youth Day Postponed to Avoid Clash with Diocese Ordination

Sunday, August 6, 2023

The Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development has decided to defer the scheduled National Youth Day, originally planned for the 12th of August 2023 in Kabale District. The postponement comes as preparations for the event are ongoing.

According to Christopher Namara, the Kabale District Organization Committee focal person and the District’s Community Development Officer, the National Youth Day has been rescheduled to take place on the 18th of August 2023. The event will now be held at Kigezi High School Primary playground in Kabale municipality. This decision came after an agreement was reached during the National Organizing Committee meeting held at the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development in Kampala on Thursday.

Namara stated that the decision to shift the date was a result of extensive consultations among the National Organizing Committee, the state house, and the Kabale Diocese. The latter is also planning to hold the ordination of 16 priests on the 12th of August 2023. By avoiding the overlap of these significant functions in the district, the rescheduling aims to ensure a successful National Youth Day celebration.

The National Youth Day will kick off with a youth week, featuring various activities such as tree planting, community work, exhibitions, dialogues, and entertainment.

To mobilize participation, Kabale District aims to engage 10,000 individuals, especially youths from the village level. These participants will receive lunch and transportation support, courtesy of the Minister of State for Trade, Industries, and Cooperatives, David Bahati.

This year’s National Youth Day celebrations will be centered around the theme “Accelerating Recovery from Covid-19 and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda” and will emphasize the role of the youths. The event’s guest of honor is expected to be President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
