The Special Court for Essential Commodities Act cases in Coimbatore has issued an arrest warrant against Aivan Gabonge, a Ugandan national allegedly involved in a synthetic drug peddling network recently dismantled by city police. Gabonge, currently in judicial remand at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru for a related drug case, will have the warrant served on him by officials visiting the prison on Friday.
Earlier this year, Coimbatore police arrested several individuals involved in the methamphetamine trade, seizing significant quantities of drugs. Payments traced to the peddlers led investigators to Gabonge’s associate, Ivy Bonuke of Kenya, who facilitated transactions on his behalf. Subsequent arrests of Bonuke and intermediaries revealed Gabonge’s alleged control over the drug network from prison, prompting his inclusion in the ongoing investigation.
The issuance of the arrest warrant marks a critical development in efforts to dismantle the drug syndicate operating across borders, highlighting the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb illicit activities impacting communities.
