Assailants Raid Bushenyi Home, Killing Businessman and Houseboy

Sunday, July 2, 2023

Police in Bushenyi District are currently in pursuit of unidentified attackers who brutally murdered a businessman and his 14-year-old houseboy at their residence. The incident occurred in Kyabugimbi Town Council, located in Kyabugimbi Sub County, at approximately 7pm.

The victim, Nathan Namara, a 65-year-old businessman, and his houseboy, Ronald Mugabe, were tragically killed when the assailants targeted their family. According to Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the greater Bushenyi police, the sequence of events unfolded as follows: “On July 1, 2023, Namara’s wife, Deborah Namara, received a call from an individual named Turyahebwa, who requested to hire four tents and 600 chairs for a party at Ryamasa Village. Deborah Namara left their residence, leaving the gate open, while Nathan Namara and Ronald Mugabe were having dinner inside.”

Later that evening, around 9pm, Deborah Namara returned home. “She noticed that the lights were off and entered the house, using her phone for illumination. To her horror, she discovered her husband and the houseboy lying lifeless in a pool of blood,” Tumusiime explained.

Upon making this gruesome discovery, Deborah Namara raised the alarm, prompting their neighbors Bosco Timuhiirwe and Rev. Azaria Nimusiima to respond. The head teacher of Nyakabanga Primary School, Rose Mugume, reported the incident to the police. She stated, “We found the drawers of the wardrobe broken and an undisclosed amount of money, along with a flat-screen television, had been stolen.”

Initially, there was speculation that the houseboy had managed to escape or had gone missing. However, as Tumusiime recounted, “Upon further investigation, we discovered bloodstains on the wall and found his lifeless body concealed beneath a mat in a corner of the sitting room.” The 45-year-old school head expressed shock at the tragic turn of events.

Efforts were made by the police to track down the assailants using a police dog, but the trail was lost approximately one kilometer away from the crime scene, near the main road. Tumusiime surmised, “It is likely that the assailants escaped using a motorcycle or a vehicle.”

As the investigation continues, the bodies of the deceased have been transported to Kampala International Teaching Hospital in Ishaka District for postmortem examinations. Tumusiime assured journalists that inquiries are ongoing to shed light on this horrifying incident.
