Bulamogi Chief Sacks Acting Issabalangira for Unauthorized Visit to Busoga King

Bulamogi hereditary chief Prince Edward Columbus Wambuzi has removed the acting Issabalangira (head of royal chiefs) for allegedly visiting Busoga king (Kyabazinga) William Gabula Nadiope without his authorization.

Approximately two weeks ago, James Naita met with the Kyabazinga at his official residence on Igenge Hill in Jinja City’s North City Division, a visit seen locally as an attempt to mend the strained relationship between Bulamogi Chiefdom and the monarchy.

Naita’s delegation, which included Kaliro District LC5 chairman Elijah Kagoda Dhikusooka and over 30 others, aimed to foster unity, citing significant development losses due to disunity among the people of Bulamogi.

However, Prince Wambuzi insists that it’s premature for his chiefdom to reconcile with Kyabazinga, citing grievances from supporters who aided Nadiope’s ascension.

“I cannot advocate for Bulamogi’s unity with Prince Nadiope when there are royal chiefs critical of him for alienating those who supported his rise,” Prince Wambuzi stated in a telephone interview on Tuesday.

Prince Wambuzi denied authorizing Naita’s visit to the Kyabazinga and subsequently dismissed him as acting Issabalangira. Despite unanimous support from royal chiefs, Prince Wambuzi refused to endorse Naita’s appointment, instructing the Bulamogi High Command to announce his dismissal.

The Bulamogi High Command, led by Katukkiro Sam Mutono and former Chief Justice Samuel Wako Wambuzi, swiftly organized a press briefing in Kaliro Town Council to confirm Naita’s removal.

Reading from a statement signed by Justice Wambuzi, Mutono introduced former State Minister for Trade Nelson Wambuzi Gagawala as the new Issabalangira and Eric Kihuruko as Deputy Katukkiro of Bulamogi chiefdom.

Gagawala pledged to prioritize unity among the people of Bulamogi, expressing gratitude for the appointment and promising dedicated service.

Background:

The rift between Kyabazinga and Prince Wambuzi of Bulamogi chiefdom in Kaliro District dates back to 2008, following suggestions from some Busoga loyalists for Wambuzi to assume the throne after the death of his father, Kyabazinga Henry Wako Muloki.

The dispute persisted until 2014, when then-Parliament Speaker Rebecca Kadaga intervened, leading to the election of Prince Gabula by 11 hereditary royal chiefs of Busoga and his subsequent coronation as Kyabazinga.
