Chief Prison Wardress collapses, dies

The tranquil journey from Kampala to Kabale took a tragic and unexpected turn when Placidia Tumwesigyire, a 44-year-old chief wardress assigned to Ngoma Prisons in Nakaseke district, met a mysterious demise. This incident has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving everyone questioning the cause of her untimely death.

According to the territorial police of Kabale, Placidia boarded an Abapakasi bus on July 14, 2023, with the intention of attending a relative’s wedding in Mparo, Rukiga district. The journey commenced from Kampala to Kabale town around 10:00 AM. However, tragedy struck during the early hours of July 15, 2023, around 2:00 AM, when the bus arrived at Kabale town’s Kigongi stage.

As the passengers prepared to disembark, Placidia suddenly collapsed in the bus corridor, losing consciousness. Alarmed by the situation, fellow passengers rushed to her aid and quickly transported her to Rushoroza Health Centre. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the health facility.

The Kabale police station promptly received a report regarding this sudden and tragic loss of life and initiated a swift investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. In order to establish the cause of death, the body was transferred to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a comprehensive postmortem examination.

The local community, along with Placidia’s colleagues at Ngoma Prisons, are grappling with the profound shock of losing a dedicated chief wardress. Placidia was a resident of Kahamarunyanjoka village in Kitumba sub-county, Kabale district.

ASP Maate Elly, the spokesperson for the Kigezi region, has expressed the police’s unwavering commitment to uncover the truth behind Placidia’s sudden demise. The investigation aims to provide answers to her grieving family and bring a sense of closure to this heart-wrenching incident.
