KAMPALA, (Examiner) – Dr. Kiddu Makubuya, a seasoned politician, renowned legal expert, and former Attorney General of Uganda, has passed away at the age of 73 after a long battle with illness.

Born in 1949 in Luweero District, Dr. Makubuya served in various capacities in President Museveni’s government. His roles included Minister of State in charge of Luwero Triangle, State Minister for Foreign Affairs (International Cooperation), Minister of Education and Sports, Justice Minister, Attorney General, and Minister for General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister. He resigned from the cabinet on February 16, 2012.

During his tenure as Attorney General, Dr. Makubuya played a crucial role in shaping Uganda’s legal framework and was instrumental in drafting several key pieces of legislation, including the 1995 Constitution.

He was also a Member of Parliament for Katikamu South Constituency and served on various parliamentary committees.

A respected intellectual and scholar, Dr. Makubuya held a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University and a Master of Laws degree from the University of London. He was also a fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences.

Despite his many achievements, Dr. Makubuya was a frustrated man in his final days, according to close friends. They described him as a patriot who had grown disillusioned with the country’s political direction.
