The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs. Janet Museveni, has called upon the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) to extend their support beyond infrastructural projects to include the training of trainers for Uganda’s technical schools.
During a meeting on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, with SFD CEO Sultan Abdulrahman Al Marshad and the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Uganda, Muhammad Bin Khalid Faloudah, Mrs. Museveni expressed her gratitude for SFD’s financial backing of the establishment of five Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes across Uganda. The meeting, held at the State Lodge in Kyankwanzi district, coincided with a Cabinet retreat at the National Leadership Institute (NALI).
The First Lady emphasized the importance of trainer training, stating, “Training our trainers is a major part of our needs in technical education. We need to have hands-on trainers.”
In response, the Ambassador affirmed that training is already being considered, and the SFD CEO assured their commitment to opening training institutes for trainers in Uganda.

The SFD has provided $12 million to support the development of TVET institutes in Kyenjojo, Lyantonde, Kiboga, Bukedea, and Adjumani. In addition, a $4 million project to increase safe water access in rural areas was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during the same meeting. This project will fund the construction of 23 solar-powered water systems in various districts, benefiting approximately 15,000 residents.
The meeting was attended by several high-profile Ugandan officials, including the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Matia Kasaija, and the Minister of State for Water and Environment, Beatrice Anywar. The collaboration highlights the strong and beneficial relationship between Uganda and the Saudi Fund for Development, which has supported Uganda with over $137.5 million for various projects since 1976.
