WAKISO, (Examiner) – At a grand celebration held at Masulita Children’s Village in Wakiso district, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni lauded First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, for her unwavering commitment to corruption-free leadership in Uganda. The event, held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, marked the First Lady’s 76th birthday under the theme: “Celebrating 76 Years of Excellence.”

In his speech, President Museveni highlighted the First Lady’s efforts in eliminating corruption in areas she has worked, particularly in Karamoja and the Ministry of Education. He recounted initial reservations about her political involvement, which she overcame by implementing significant anti-corruption measures. “She brought a corruption-free leadership,” he affirmed, citing her transformative work in Karamoja and the education sector.

Reflecting on Uganda’s progress, President Museveni emphasized the improvement in life expectancy since 1986 and expressed gratitude for the long life he and the First Lady have enjoyed. He also commended her for founding Uganda Women’s Effort to Save Orphans (UWESO) in 1986, an initiative that has significantly impacted the lives of many orphans.

The First Lady, expressing her gratitude to God, recounted her motivation for giving back to the community after the liberation struggle. She emphasized her lifelong commitment to serving others, particularly children, through initiatives like UWESO. Her daughter, Mrs. Natasha Museveni Karugire, and other dignitaries praised her for her dedication and transformative impact.
