KAMPALA, (Examiner) – Uganda’s President, Yoweri Museveni, returned to his homeland on Friday following a three-day excursion in Kenya. His visit came at the invitation of President William Ruto.

Expressing gratitude to President Ruto and the people of Kenya for their warm reception and hospitality, Museveni highlighted the productive bilateral discussions aimed at fortifying the ties between their nations. He emphasized the collective strength that Uganda and Kenya possess when united.

Among those bidding farewell to Museveni was Raila Odinga, leader of the Azimio la Umoja Coalition, accompanied by Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Kipchumba Murkomen.

Sharing moments from the departure on his Facebook page, Murkomen disclosed that several bilateral agreements, including those concerning trade and transport infrastructure development, were discussed and signed during Museveni’s visit. Notably, discussions centered on extending the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha to Malaba, Kampala, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, aiming to establish a robust regional transport network.

Museveni’s arrival in Kenya on Wednesday was greeted by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. His visit coincided with the conclusion of the Second Session of the Joint Ministerial Commission between Uganda and Kenya, held from May 12 to 14 at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.

During this session, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to promptly implementing decisions made in previous bilateral meetings. Additionally, they endorsed convening a joint technical committee meeting to address any outstanding trade and investment matters.
