KABALE, (Examiner) – The Kabale District National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) Office has issued a stern warning regarding fraudulent activities perpetrated by individuals posing as NIRA personnel and exploiting citizens in need of NIRA services.

Billy Basulwa, the Registrations Officer at the Kabale district NIRA Office, has alerted the public in anticipation of the forthcoming second phase of mass enrollment and renewal of National Identification Cards, scheduled to commence on June 1 and conclude on September 30, 2025. Basulwa told Examiner that the office has apprehended five impostors who have been masquerading as NIRA employees and unlawfully extracting money from unsuspecting individuals. These fraudulent individuals typically target people in public spaces or even within the office premises, falsely promising expedited services and preferential treatment.

Basulwa stressed that NIRA services are rendered free of charge, and any legitimate payments required should be transacted directly into designated bank accounts. He emphasized the limited staff capacity of his office, consisting only of three members, and reiterated that NIRA services are exclusively accessible at authorized NIRA offices and designated registration centers.
