Pilgrim Dies En Route to Namugongo for Martyrs’ Day

A pilgrim died after a journey of over 290kms to Namugongo for Martyrs’ Day, authorities confirmed. Ronald Ojok, part of a group from Northern Uganda, passed away in Luwero District. Ojok fell ill near Luwero and was diagnosed with malaria at Emus Health Centre II.

Despite initial improvement, his condition worsened at their camp in Bombo, where he later died. The medical team from Bombo Hospital conducted a postmortem. Ojok’s funeral is scheduled for June 5 in Nwoya District.

This year’s Martyr’s Day is expected to draw over 2.5 million people to honor the memory of 22 Catholic and 23 Anglican converts executed in the late 19th century.
