Police Promote 9,312 Subordinate Officers

According to a recent announcement made on Tuesday by the police department, as many as 9,312 subordinate officers have been promoted by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martin Okoth Ochola.

The promotions, which were issued as of June 1, 2023, were granted based on several factors including seniority, prior work history, commendable performance, and an individual’s record of discipline.

The newly promoted officers can be categorized into several different positions of authority, with 1,145 officers advancing from the rank of Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) to Inspector of Police (IP), 1,531 officers promoted from Sergeant (Sgt) to AIP, and 3,956 officers made Corporals from their previous rank of Police Constable.


In addition, there are five Head Constable Major (HCM) officers who have been promoted to the rank of Inspector (IP), three Head Constables (HC) now newly appointed as Head Constable Major (HCM), 28 Station Sergeants advanced to Head Constable and 2,644 Corporals were promoted to the rank of Sergeant.


“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the officers and their families on their successful promotion. We also encourage them and their colleagues to continue to serve the public with dedication and professionalism,” said CP Polly Namaye, the deputy police spokesperson in a statement made on Tuesday morning.
