MASAKA, (Examiner) – National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, commonly known as Bobi Wine, greeted supporters en route to Masaka District for his mobilization efforts on May 31, 2024.

Three individuals lost their lives in a collision involving two vehicles and four motorcycles during Bobi Wine’s procession to Masaka City for his mobilization efforts leading up to the 2026 general election, according to police reports Friday.
The incident occurred in Maya Parish, Nsangi sub-county, Busiro County, Wakiso District, also leaving an unspecified number of individuals injured, as stated by ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police.

Footage reviewed by this reporter depicted two individuals lying motionless in a pool of blood at the scene of the accident, with others being attended to and transported to waiting vehicles for medical attention.

“The collision resulted in the immediate fatality of the rider and passenger of motorcycle UFY 465Y at the scene. Their bodies have been conveyed to City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem examinations. Additionally, another victim who was initially rushed to Mulago has succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total death toll to three,” ASP Owoyesigyire announced.
Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the reckless driving of the Toyota Hiace driver caused the accident.

The driver, allegedly part of the procession, is currently evading authorities.
“The Hiace collided with the Toyota Noah registration number UAT 157A and subsequently struck several motorcycles —UFY 983T, UGC 381C, UEJ 361D, and UFY 465Y— which were also part of the procession, resulting in fatalities. The drivers of the impounded vehicles fled the scene and are currently at large. Efforts to apprehend them are ongoing,” ASP Owoyesigyire elaborated.

The wreckage of both vehicles has been transported to Nsangi Police Station.
“We urge the National Unity Platform to exercise greater caution while on the road to prevent such tragic incidents,” Mr. Owoyesigyire emphasized.
Bobi Wine departed from Kampala around 10 am for his mobilization activities following a successful rally in Mukoono District on Wednesday, as part of his nationwide tour ahead of the 2026 general election.

Prior to departure, Bobi Wine cautioned supporters, especially boda boda riders, against reckless behavior.
“Please don’t drive or ride recklessly. I want to see all of you back here safely,” the former presidential candidate urged.

At the time of reporting, police and military forces had initiated teargas and gunfire to deter Bobi Wine from entering Masaka.
