NWOYA, (Examiner) – Police in Nwoya district, northern Uganda are currently investigating a tragic incident involving a soccer enthusiast who reportedly took his own life following Arsenal’s defeat to Bayern in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Richard Egola, aged 29, had wagered a significant sum of UGX10 million on his favored team’s victory. However, the unfortunate outcome of the match led to immense distress for Egola. Witnesses recount how he watched the game in a local hotel, only to be overwhelmed with sorrow as Arsenal’s chances dwindled.

“We were gathered in a hotel in town watching the match. When Arsenal lost, Egola left abruptly, visibly distraught and in tears.” Calvin Otieno, one of Egola’s companions, told Examiner on Thursday,

It was later discovered that Egola had taken his own life with a rope, with his body found hanging from a mango tree the following morning.

Police and authorities responded to the scene, transferring the body to the city mortuary for further examination through a postmortem procedure. Once completed, Egola’s remains will be released to his family for funeral arrangements.
