The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have successfully recruited 83 applicants from the Elgon Sub-region as part of a nationwide recruitment exercise.

Colonel James Barigye Rukundo, the team leader, reported that the recruits comprised 42 individuals from Sironko district and 41 from Bulambuli district, including 22 female candidates. “The entire process was conducted fairly and based on merit, achieving the set objectives,” Col. Rukundo affirmed.

Major Isaac Oware, the Public Information Officer for the 3rd Division, praised the successful completion of the exercise. He emphasized that the new recruits would undergo rigorous training to serve the nation with dignity and integrity, despite facing challenges during the recruitment process. He noted that several applicants were disqualified due to mismatches and discrepancies in their academic documents and national identity cards, as well as for medical reasons. “Those found with forged or fake academic documents were handed over to the Sironko Central Police Station for further investigation,” Maj. Oware stated.

Bayole Stanley, the Bulambuli Resident District Commissioner, urged the recruits to remain patriotic and disciplined in their service to Uganda. “You have gone through a tight and transparent interview process. I urge you to remain patriotic and disciplined to serve Uganda with dignity and integrity,” Bayole encouraged.

David Livingstone Giruli, the District Chairperson of Sironko, expressed gratitude to the UPDF leadership for their efforts in enlisting the youth into the national defense forces.
