Official Burial Planned for Henry Kyemba

Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | The late Mr. Henry K. Magumba Kyemba, aged 86, is set to receive an official state funeral, as confirmed by the Government. He will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Bugembe town, Jinja District, on October 26. Mr. Kyemba passed away on October 19 due to complications related to diabetes, as reported by his family, at URO CARE Hospital in Kampala.

In an official statement released by Government Spokesperson Mr. Ofwono Opondo on October 21, it was announced that “H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in accordance with Article 99 of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, as amended, which grants executive authority to the President, has directed that the Late Hon. Henry K. Magumba Kyemba be granted an Official Burial.”

An official funeral is granted by the President to individuals who have made significant contributions to the country, and the government will cover all funeral expenses.

According to the statement from Mr. Ofwono, a preliminary funeral arrangement has been outlined, involving a collaboration between the National Organizing Committee, chaired by the Minister for Presidency, Hon. Milly Babirye Babalanda, and representatives from the family.

The burial ceremony is scheduled for 4 pm on the coming Thursday. The preliminary program indicates that the body will be transported from the funeral home on Monday, October 23, for a church service at 10 am at Namirembe Cathedral in Kampala. Subsequently, the body will be taken to his residence in Port Bell, Luzira, at 2 pm.

On Tuesday, the body will be on display at the parliament from 10 am to 1 pm, allowing parliamentarians to pay their respects to the late politician, after which it will be moved to a funeral home in Ntinda.

A Joint Local Council Session is planned for Wednesday at City Hall, Jinja, beginning at 10 am. Following this, the body will be transported to his ancestral home in Bugembe at 3 pm.

On Thursday, a church service will be held at Bugembe Cathedral before Mr. Kyemba is laid to rest at 4 pm.

Mr. Kyemba was a prominent Rotarian and political leader who held various high-ranking positions in post-independence Uganda.
