Uganda’s Prime Minister, the Right Honorable Nabbanja Robinah, is currently in Geneva, Switzerland, attending the three-day Global Refugee Forum 2023. The event commenced on December 13th and is scheduled to conclude on December 15th, 2023.

Upon arrival, the Prime Minister and her accompanying delegation were warmly welcomed by Ambassador Arthur Kafeero, the Deputy Head of Uganda’s Mission in Switzerland, and Brigadier General Emmanuel Kazahura, the Defense Attaché to the Mission.

In her capacity as the leader of Uganda’s delegation, the Prime Minister represents President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at this significant gathering, recognized as the world’s largest assembly in support of refugees and their host nations.

The Global Refugee Forum 2023 is being held at the Palexpo in Geneva and serves as an opportunity to build upon the advancements made by states and stakeholders in implementing the Global Compact on Refugees, along with the associated commitments and initiatives introduced since the inaugural Forum in 2019.

This forum, convened every four years, stands as the world’s preeminent international gathering on refugee-related matters, designed to facilitate the practical realization of the objectives outlined in the Global Compact on Refugees. These objectives encompass alleviating pressures on host countries, enhancing refugee self-reliance, expanding access to third-country solutions, and ameliorating conditions in countries of origin.

The 2023 Global Refugee Forum presents an occasion for participating states, partners, and stakeholders to announce tangible pledges and contributions, showcase progress achieved, exchange best practices, and assess the challenges and opportunities on the horizon.

This year’s forum is co-convened by five states: Colombia, France, Japan, Jordan, and Uganda. It is co-hosted by the Government of Switzerland and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
