On Sunday, February 25, 2024, the remains of journalist Eliot Kabangira Magande were laid to rest at his home in Nyaruraara cell, Rwakirunguura parish in Buyanja Sub-county.

Known affectionately as Mzee wa kazi, Kabangira Magande served as the Station Manager of Radio Ankole in Ntungamo district for eighteen years. He passed away on Thursday morning the previous week at Block A level 4, Mulago Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for prostate cancer.

During the somber burial ceremony, Rt. Rev Nathan Ahimbisibwe, the Bishop of South Ankole Diocese, encouraged mourners to be faithful stewards of their talents, emphasizing that these gifts were bestowed upon them by God. He lamented the loss of Eliot Kabangira Magande, noting his remarkable talents in teaching and mentoring others.

Hon. Naboth Namanya, the Rubabo County legislator, expressed gratitude for the late Eliot Kabangira Magande’s contributions to the media industry, where he began his career as a humble journalist. He urged mourners to emulate Magande’s generosity and emphasized the importance of providing children with education within their means rather than sacrificing everything for expensive schools, highlighting that wealth is not a prerequisite for success.

Representing the directors of Ankole Investments Companies, Jackie Rwakakooko commended Eliot Kabangira Magande for his exemplary managerial skills and dedication to revitalizing Radio Ankole, which was facing decline when he took over as manager.

Eva Kikyonkyo, the wife of the deceased, shared that her husband had battled prostate cancer until his passing, expressing gratitude to Hon. Mwesigwa Rukutana for employing him.

Kabangira Magande, who was 70 years old at the time of his death, is survived by fourteen children and thirteen grandchildren.
